Castello di Magione is a magnificent medieval castle originally built as a hostel for pilgrims travelling to Rome in the XII century. Wine production here began in the Middle Ages and its wine is produced from vineyards nestled into the hills that encircle Lake Trasimeno in Umbria.

The estate’s vineyard Poggio Bertaio was born in 1972 when Fabio, father of the current owners, moved to Castiglione del Lago and bought the first part of the property. He planted the first vines during this time and as his two sons grew up, they too dedicated themselves to the business. One manages the family winery while the other studied oenology and consulted locally while also working for the family property. Both are now focused solely on their family business and in 1998 a new winery was added.
